Agricultural machinery in China

For a few years now, the most demanded power range for wheel tractors is the 60 to 80 Hp. Chinese and foreign manufacturers established in china are providing suitable answers to this demand, the power level offered on the market is constantly rising, and some Chinese manufacturers are now offering 200Hp and more. Tractor technology, power and quality progressed significantly over the past decade, in a growing market fueled by incentives and subsidies.

Offering quite a contrast, the available range of agriculture machinery seems to have slowly evolved, mostly on equipment size, without major improvement on quality or diversity of the offer. For the time being, agricultural practices are adapted to available equipment, more than equipments are adapted to agricultural practices needing to be mechanized. Today, specialized agricultural machineries are still mostly unavailable or imported.

Today and for the coming two decades, the main lines of Chinese agriculture evolution are pretty clear.

In a close future, the law on food safety will impose traceability on food products and some agricultural inputs, a sanitary responsibility will be imposed at every link within the food production and distribution chain. The family size 1 ha farm production system and small scale processing system will have found their limit.

The coming laws and reglementation regarding land property rights and land trade, will favor land regroupment and speed up emergence of larger farms (50 to 200ha) that have already and significantly started.

On those newly established farms, labour will not anymore be a “housework” unaccounted value, but a labor cost duly accounted under the labor contract law. The cost/benefit ratio of farm equipment will then be recalculate.

Agriculture, Traceability and Food Safety in China

For the past few years, the Chinese government is making significant effort to speed up and strengthen rural areas development, particularly regarding agriculture modernization.

Main problems are relatively well known and understood :

Over division of agricultural land and insufficient mechanization, create low efficiency production systems with high actual production costs and relatively low agricultural incomes.

To small and numerous farms, farmers lacking technical training and proper information, possible use of inappropriate tools or products, deficiency of soil and water protection against pollutions ; all those factors generate an omnipresent suspicion on food safety.

Successive bulking and division of products from different origins, through a complex and often impenetrable distribution system, result in a situation where traceability is more than difficult to establish and maintain.

Sanitary controls made at processing facilities before or after processing, or directly on market, have improved the situation. However, relevance of sample taken from possibly highly heterogeneous batches of products, remain uncertain.

Our attention focus on :
  • Soil preparation tools for Soil Conservation Techniques
  • Seeding and transplanting systems
  • Mechanical weed control
  • Precision Sprayers
  • Conservation irrigation system
